(We're in, hooray us!)

ketchup bottle soap dispenser and other new uses for old things

So I was on lunch break the other day at a notoriously dirty (looking) bar in my work neighborhood and came across this quaint use of a ketchup bottle in their ladies room:

It is so simple, but seriously how cute is that?

In college I used classic yellow and red ketchup & mustard bottles for shampoo and conditioner but I never thought to translate that idea into a clean and modern look. In that dingy, sharpie-plastered bathroom I had a moment of organizational dorkiness and imagined my dream minimalist kitchen sink with big clear ketchup bottle for dish soap, and a smaller one for my seasonal change of hand soap scents.

I got curious and browsed google images to see if anyone else had a better image of said ketchup bottle use, and then I found this super cute real simple article from 2009:

repurposed heinz 57 bottle makes the perfect pancake batter dispenser

That article is worth a read--50 unusual uses for everyday objects! Even if you are only impressed with 10% of the content you still have 5 great new organizing tools to put into action, go for it!

Dsquared2 ice skate bootie

I get that these are an attention-grabbing sort of shoe for runway only, but seriously? The ice skate booties from the Dsquared2 RTW Fall 2011 collection are completely fascinating.

Oblique pen, where have you been all my life?

Is this what all my years of funny looking half-cursive are amounting to? I am so proud!
(Spoiler alert kyle! working on your birthday card)

Sewing Machine repair victory!

I have resolved to follow through with and finish projects as a new mantra, starting with the mess of half finished avalanche that is my work table (top as well as underneath)

I present to you: Pat's new (to him) sewing machine!

Pat has easily waited over a year for me to find and fix him and working sewing machine from my land of misfit toys. This kenmore is a workhorse! (as most of them are, very easily fixed these guys are so if you find them out and about give them a test and snatch them up) All this model needed was a thorough cleaning, oiling on all of the joints, a replacement bobbin case and light bulb, and tightening up the presser foot.

Success! Now onto the other four...

(in my defense I have already eliminated a fifth machine from my capabilities for repair)
